  69. This package contains the recipe management program, MicroCook, by
  70. NORSKi Software.  This document contains only a brief description of the
  71. package and its features, along with instructions for its installation.
  72. Quite detailed documentation is included in the package, but it is in
  73. archived form, and is more easily read after installation.

  75. MicroCook is a shareware program.  This evaluation version includes all
  76. features of the program, and is not crippled in any way.  You may use it
  77. for up to 30 days, without charge (see READ1ST.TXT for more details). If
  78. you like the program, and wish to continue its use after this evaluation
  79. period, you are required to pay for the program (see REGISTER.TXT for
  80. more details).  Any fee you may have paid to others (disk vendors,
  81. dealers, etc.) to obtain this evaluation version was a fee for their
  82. copying and distribution services, rather than a payment for continued
  83. use of the program.

  124. ===== Installation =====================================

  126. To register, select the Register function from the Print menu in
  127. MicroCook. There the choice of registration method can be selected, and
  128. printed. When you register you will receive a small "key file" with the
  129. serial number and your name. Place this file in the SAME directory as
  130. MCOOK.EXE. This file is for YOU only, and must NOT be distributed
  131. with any copies you give to your friends or upload to BBS's (which
  132. you are encouraged to do). The Key disables all the "Please Register!"
  133. messages and the limit of displayed recipes in the Index listing. I added
  134. these "features" as reminders to unregistered users, not to harass them.
  135. The unregistered version and the registered version are identical in
  136. functions, except for these messages and index limit. Also included with
  137. the registered version are  2,000 free recipes. You can also run the
  138. REGISTER program from the DOS prompt, or from FILE/RUN in Windows.
  139. Serial number and Control number can be sent to you via e-mail if
  140. registering with SWREG, PsL, or when a check has been received. To print
  141. out the documentation included with MicroCook, use the File Manager from
  142. the Tool menu in MicroCook. There you can select any of the TXT files
  143. that are included with MicroCook, and both read and print them. To print
  144. the manual, select "Manual" under the Print Menu in MicroCook. This will
  145. format the manual better. If you are printing to a continuous feed
  146. printer (DOT-Matrix), you should locate the first page perforation about
  147. 1 inch above where the print head is located.

  184. CREDIT.TXT and SWREG.TXT can be deleted AFTER you have registered.

  186. EDNA2MC.EXE and EDNA2MC.TXT can be deleted if you don't have any of
  187. Edna's Cookbook recipes to be converted.

  189. MCDOODLE.EXE and MCDOODLE.TXT can be deleted if you don't like it, don't
  190. use it, or use MicroCook from Windows 3.x. WINDOW95.TXT, WINDOWS.TXT and
  191. OS2_HOW.TXT can be deleted if you don't need those installation
  192. instructions.

  194. MCOOK1.ICO, MCOOK2.ICO and MCOOK3.ICO can be deleted if you don't like
  195. them, don't use them, or don't use Windows.

  197. RECIPES.MCD and ASSORTED.MCD recipe databases can be deleted if you don't
  198. like any of the recipes in them, or have exported those you like to other
  199. databases.

  201. Please KEEP the rest of the files, or you might have problems running
  202. MicroCook.

  204. IMPORTANT!!! MCOOKxxx.ZIP has been ZIPped with a registered version of
  205. PKZIP, and has an Authenticity Verification built in. So when you
  206. un-ZIPped the MCOOKxxx.ZIP file, you should have seen a -AV after each
  207. file name, like:

  211. and at the end of un-ZIPping these two lines:

  216. The -AV mean that the file pass a checksum that was generated when I
  217. ZIPped up the file, and that it has NOT been changed since it left my PC.
  218. If you see the last two lines, it also tell you that ALL the files are
  219. exactly as they left my PC, and that the MCOOKxxx.ZIP has NOT been
  220. re-ZIPped or tampered with. Only NORSKi Software has the been assigned
  221. the ID# KEM280 from PKWARE, and this number can NOT be falsified.

  223. If one of the files do NOT pass the -AV verification, or the last two
  224. lines are missing or different, SOMEONE HAS CHANGED OR RE-ZIPPED
  225. MCOOKxxx.ZIP, and COULD have changed some of the files. You should then
  226. practice Safe Computing and run a virus checking program, just to be on
  227. the safe side. If you downloaded the MCOOKxxx.ZIP file from a BBS, the
  228. Sysop there might have added some advertising for his/her BBS as a part
  229. of the ZIP file. Some shareware distributors also like to add their own
  230. installation programs too. In those cases, there's probably nothing else
  231. added, but be safe and do a virus check.
